What I Expected Interior Design to Be
When I first started this Interior Design course, I thought it was going to be a piece of cake. I mean, Colors? Putting together rooms that are color coordinated? It all sounds easy right? Well yes and no. In theory it should be easy. We all know how to match colors and pick out furniture. But when it comes right down to it, it takes skill to put together a nice looking room. There are certain colors for different kinds of moods. There are different lighting and wall fixtures that must be taken into count.
I’m currently in my second semester in this Interior Design major. I can honestly say that it is a lot of work. Don’t get me wrong, half the time I do enjoy what I’m doing. There’s many different classes, from architect related ones to color theory ones and so on. It is quite enjoyable but if you slack off the work it tends to pile up a lot.
Interior Design deals with a lot of analyzing how much space you have and how you can use it in the best way possible. You also study History and how people back then used to design their houses. Currently we are studying the Renacentist ways. Interior Design is a very interesting major as you get to study ancient cultures and find out a little bit more about where styles that we use now in our houses on a daily basis come from. You also get to investigate how buildings and such were made back then as well.
Also, you get to look at different flooring, wall, and ceiling finishes, etc. In my case, since I still live with my parents, I can recommend things for when they want to remodel the house, the bedroom, or if they even want to change the paint color. Just the other day they asked me about the bathroom.
All in all, I would recommend getting a degree in Interior Design to anyone. If you’re a stay at home mom I would highly recommend this. It would help you for when you want to redecorate your house. Plus a little knowledge on interior design never hurt anybody. If you’re a student and don’t really know what to study yet I would take into consideration taking this major. It’s a lot of work, trust me, but in the end it’s worth it. When you move out and get your own place you can apply what you learned in class to your own house and make it the best house on the block and be the envy of your neighbors.
